Box Canyon Trail Races

Box Canyon Trail Races take place in Telluride, Colorado and feature mountain trail courses through alpine meadows, canyon terrain, and the Telluride Ski Resort. The event occurs on July 25th 2026 and uses mostly technical alpine singletrack with sections of double track and fire road. The courses reach high elevations, including a high point at Wasatch Junction near 13,000 ft.

Distances:

  • 30K - scenic high alpine loop through Telluride; roughly 5,800 ft vertical gain.
  • 10 Mile - loop to the top of the ski resort and back; roughly 3,500 ft gain.

Aid stations are placed on course, including Bridal Veil and Gold Hill, and supply water, Tailwind, fruit, sweet and salty snacks, soft drinks, and simple hot food such as potatoes or broth. Drop bags are not available. Cutoff times are set for aid stations and the finish and may be adjusted for inclement weather.

Safety measures include a pre-race briefing, radio communication between aid stations and race staff, an on-call local EMS, and volunteers with first aid supplies. Recommended gear includes hydration, sun protection, warm layers, and the ability to be self-sufficient on alpine trails. Free parking is available at the Carhenge lot and free four-hour parking at Telluride Town Park, both about a ten-minute walk from the start/finish.
