Box Canyon Trail Races

The Box Canyon Trail Races take place in Telluride, Colorado and include two loop courses through high alpine terrain. The routes use a mix of double track, singletrack, rough trail and alpine meadows, and pass notable local features such as Bridal Veil Basin and the Smuggler-Union Hydroelectric Plant.

The longer course climbs into upper Bridal Veil Basin and reaches Wasatch Junction at about 13,000 ft. It descends through Upper Bear Creek and uses the Wasatch Connector and Telluride Ski Resort trails to return to town. The 30K course includes roughly 5,800 ft of vertical gain and varied surface conditions.

The shorter loop follows Bear Creek canyon up toward treeline and continues to the top of Telluride Ski Resort, offering wide mountain views into the San Juan Mountains before descending through resort trails back to town. The 10 mile course includes approximately 3,500 ft of elevation gain.

Event logistics noted by the organizer include bib pickup on the Friday before race day at Jagged Edge Equipment Garage and pickup on race day at the Oak Street Gondola plaza start area. Runners are responsible for carrying rain gear and warm clothes because storms can range from light rain to hail. The event listing describes a refund policy with partial refunds 30 or more days before the race, options for rollovers to the following year at a discounted entry, and possible transfers. Results are posted on Ultrasignup within 48 hours. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
