Gargrave Show Fell Race
The Gargrave Show fell race is a regular fixture in the fell running calendar. Races begin and end in the main ring and cover a multi terrain course used for senior and under seventeens races as well as junior events.
The route includes a river crossing, meadowland, pastureland, and woodland with a tunnel of rhododendrons. It then crosses open moorland and includes a steep climb along the shoulder of Sharphaw to the Trigg point, before returning to a half circuit of the show ring and the finish in the main ring.
Racing is organised across several age categories: under nines, under twelves, under fourteens, under seventeens and seniors. All runners must pay to enter the show ground but there is no separate fee to enter the fell races. Registration takes place on the field adjacent to the main ring and the secretary’s tent.
Prizes include a trophy for the senior race winner, cash prizes for the first three male and first three female finishers in each race, and a cash prize for the first local runner in each race. Two local trophies are awarded to the highest placed local female and the highest placed local male across all age groups. The local area includes Gargrave, Coniston Cold, Bell Busk, Bank Newton, Broughton, Eshton, Winterburn, Flasby and Stirton with Thorlby.
The event attracts athletes from across the country, including both established and novice runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
