The Black Mountains 50 takes place on July 11, 2026, in the Black Mountains within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The start and finish location is Longtown Hall in Hereford. Participants can choose from four distances.

Distances and Elevation

The event offers the following route options:

  • 50 miles (80 km) with 11,059 ft of elevation.
  • 32 miles (50 km) with 6,663 ft of elevation.
  • 26 miles (marathon, 43.4 km) with 5,505 ft of elevation.
  • 13 miles (half marathon, 21 km) with 2,738 ft of elevation.

The course is approximately 90% trail and 10% road lanes.

Course and Navigation

The route is self-navigated, with GPX files provided for each distance. Organizers will place some flags and signs in potentially confusing areas. The course passes landmarks including Llanthony Abbey, Hatterall Hill, Pen Cerrig Calch, Cat’s Back, Waun Fach, and Lord Hereford's Knob.

Event Support and Logistics

All participants are tracked throughout the event. Support includes checkpoints, water stations, a full medical team, and physiotherapy support. Runners in the 50-mile distance receive hot food at the mid-way point. All finishers receive food, with hot food provided for ultra runners. A 24-hour cutoff applies to all distances. Local camping options are available near the event headquarters, and parking is available for a fee.

Participant Requirements
