The Black Mountains trail event takes place on Saturday 11 July 2026 from Longtown Village Hall, Longtown, Herefordshire (HR2 0LD). Distances offered include:

  • 32 Miles / 50 km
  • 27 Miles / 43.4 km (Marathon)
  • 13 Miles / 21 km (Half Marathon)

Elevation gain is listed for each distance: Marathon = 5,505 ft, 50 Mile = 11,059 ft, 32 Mile = 6,663 ft, Half = 2,738 ft. All routes are self-navigation with GPX and map provision; participants are tracked on course. Cut-off times include a 12-hour cut-off at 26 miles and a 24-hour cut-off for the 50-mile event. Organisers state they may impose additional cut-offs or safety decisions in severe weather.

Support, facilities and mandatory kit

The event provides checkpoints, water stations, food (hot food for Ultra runners; cold food for other distances), chip timing, trackers, drop-bag service for the 50-mile mid-way, physio and taping, a full medical team and support runners on the course. Local camping near the HQ, toilets and refreshments are available. Parking is charged (£5) and parking tickets may be entered into a ballot.

Mandatory kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest/pack, base layer, capacity to carry fluids, emergency food, map or downloaded GPX, fully charged mobile phone and power bank, hat and gloves, trail-appropriate footwear, basic first aid kit, foil blanket, reusable cup, head torch and whistle with spare batteries.
