Event Details

The Black Mountains 50 is an ultramarathon, marathon, and half marathon event held in the Black Mountains, within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The event takes place on Saturday, July 11, 2026. It features four distances:

  • 50 miles / 80 km
  • 32 miles / 50 km
  • 26 miles / 43.4 km (marathon)
  • 13 miles / 21 km (half marathon)

The event uses self-navigation on a course that is approximately 90% trail and 10% road. The start and finish location is Longtown Hall, Hereford (HR2 0LD). The total cut-off time for all distances is 24 hours.

Course and Support

The routes pass landmarks like Llanthony Abbey, Hatterall Hill, Pen Cerrig Calch, Cat’s Back, Waun Fach, and Lord Hereford's Knob. Participants are tracked throughout the race, and a GPX file is provided. There are checkpoints and water stations on the route. Medical support, physio services, and back runners are available. For the 50-mile ultra, food is provided at the mid-way point in Longtown. All finishers receive food at the end, with hot food for ultra runners.

Facilities and Logistics

Registration and kit checks are available on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Parking is available for a £5 fee, with a ballot for a free entry to a future event. Camping is available near the headquarters. A drop bag zone is available for the 50-mile distance. A mandatory kit list includes a waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest, base layer, head torch, and other specified items. The event is cup-free, so participants must bring a reusable cup.

What Participants Receive

All finishers receive a bespoke medal. Prizes are awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd male and female finishers, and for the 1st male and female veteran over 50 and 60.
