Beast of the Beacons - 10, 20 and 40 mile trail event

The Beast of the Beacons takes place on 17 April 2027 in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The event is based at Henderson Hall, Talybont on Usk, with Gilestone Farm also listed as a location associated with the event. The course is marked and supported by marshals.

Runners follow trails through forests, mountains, rivers and reservoirs. The route includes rocky paths, soft forest trails, mud and steep climbs; snow is occasionally encountered. Wildlife such as red kites may be visible. Checkpoints are described as well stocked and cater for dietary requirements including vegan options; typical items include fruit, snacks, electrolytes and drinks.

Approximate elevation gain and cut-offs are provided: the event lists elevations around 2026 ft for 10 miles, 4219 ft for 20 miles and 8438 ft for 40 miles. Cut-off limits are 8 hours for the 10 and 20 mile routes and 16 hours for the 40 mile route.

The event is canicross friendly: dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run, kept on a lead and remain the owner’s responsibility. Organisers state they cannot allocate standard trophies to canicross entrants.

Mandatory kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest or pack, capacity for 1 litre of fluid, map or downloaded GPX, fully charged mobile phone, hat and gloves, appropriate trail footwear, first aid items, foil blanket, head torch and whistle, emergency food and a reusable cup. Full kit checks are carried out at registration; random checks may be made on course.

A 26.2 mile trail marathon near Bridgend on 23 May 2026 with mixed terrain, quarry and forestry sections, five feed stations and a GPX route. Entry was limited to 60 participants aged 18 or over.

Crocodile 8 on 24 May 2026 is a hilly trail and tarmac race around Tillington and Burghill with music en route and an after-event party at Burghill Community Academy. Senior and junior distances are available.

An off-road race in Dursley on 25 May 2026 covering about 10.31 km with 318 m of climb, visiting Cam Peak, Cam Long Down, Uley Bury and Downham Hill. Entries are limited to 120 and handled via Entry Central.

A 5 km fell race near Pengenffordd in South Wales with about 320 m of climb and a route that requires navigational skills. Junior races are available from age 7 and the event is insured by the WFRA.
