The Beast of the Beacons is a trail running event on Saturday 18 April 2026 in the Brecon Beacons National Park, based at Gilestone Farm, Tal Y Bont on Usk, Llangynidr, Powys. Distances offered:

  • 10 Miles / 16 km
  • 20 Miles / 32.5 km
  • 40 Miles / 65 km

The course is marked and marshalled. Minimum age is 16. Cut-off times are 8 hours for the 10 and 20 mile routes and 16 hours for the 40 mile route. Entry fees are £48 for 10 miles, £60 for 20 miles, and £80 for 40 miles.

Course, kit and services

Terrain includes forest trails, ridges, reservoirs, rivers, rocky sections, mud and steep climbs. Wildlife such as red kites may be present. Listed elevation gain figures are approximately 10 mile: 2,026 ft, 20 mile: 3,884 ft, 40 mile: 7,768 ft. GPX files for the routes are available.

Checkpoints are described as well stocked, including vegan options and items such as bananas, nuts, biscuits, electrolytes and water. Services on event day include three refuel zones, full medical cover, physio, camping field with toilets within walking distance, refreshments and hot food for the ultra distance. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, kept on the lead and are the owner’s responsibility. Mandatory kit checks are carried out and a reusable cup is required.
