Beast of the Beacons

The Beast of the Beacons is a trail running event located within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The course starts and finishes at Henderson Hall in Talybont on Usk. Participants navigate a marked route that includes a variety of terrain such as mountains, forests, rivers, reservoirs, and rocky paths.

The event offers three distinct distances:

  • 10 miles (16 km) with 2,026 feet of elevation and an 8-hour cut-off time.
  • 20 miles (32.5 km) with 4,219 feet of elevation and an 8-hour cut-off time.
  • 40 miles (65 km) with 8,438 feet of elevation and a 16-hour cut-off time.

The 40-mile distance consists of two laps of the route, with the second lap completed in reverse. The course is fully marked and supported by marshals. Checkpoints along the way provide various refreshments, including water, electrolytes, fruit, and snacks catering to different dietary requirements.

This is a canicross-friendly event for dogs at least 12 months of age. All participants must carry mandatory safety equipment, including a waterproof jacket and trousers, a base layer, a capacity for at least one litre of fluid, a first aid kit, a head torch with spare batteries, and a foil blanket.

The event village features facilities such as toilets, a medical team, and local designated parking. Participants receive a medal upon completion, and trophies are awarded to top finishers in several categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
