Beast of the Beacons : 10, 20 and 40 Mile trail running

The event is a marked trail running challenge based at Gilestone Farm, Talybont on Usk in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Routes explore forests, mountains, rivers and reservoirs with varied underfoot conditions including rocky paths, soft forest trails, mud and possible snow. Wildlife such as red kites is commonly seen along the route.

  • 10 Miles / 16 KM
  • 20 Miles / 32.5 KM
  • 40 Miles / 65 KM (reverse of the 20 mile route)

Checkpoints are described as well stocked and provide nuts, bananas, biscuits, crisps, electrolytes, coke, squash, water and options to cater for dietary requirements including vegan choices. There are three refuel zones and first aid support on the route. The course is marshalled and fully marked.

The event is canicross friendly. Dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run, and kept on lead at all times. Owners are responsible for their dogs and canicross participants are not eligible for the standard trophies listed.

A full kit check is mandatory at registration. Required items include waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest or pack, suitable base layer, capacity to carry 1 litre of fluid, emergency food, map or GPX file, charged mobile phone, head torch and whistle, appropriate trail footwear, first aid items and a foil blanket.
