The Beast of the Beacons is a trail running event organised by Limitless Trails on Saturday 18 April 2026. It starts and finishes at Gilestone Farm, Talybont on Usk, in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The event offers the following distances:

  • 10 miles (16 km)
  • 20 miles (32.5 km)
  • 40 miles (65 km)

The route includes forest tracks, reservoirs, ridges and river crossings, with steep climbs, rocky sections and technical forest trails. The 40 mile course is a reversed second lap of the 20 mile route. The course is marked and supported by marshals. Checkpoints are described as well stocked, including options for different dietary requirements.

Practical details

Cut-off times are set at 8 hours for the 10 mile and 20 mile races and 16 hours for the 40 mile race. Mandatory kit is required and will be checked at registration; the list includes waterproof clothing, race vest/pack, capacity to carry fluids, map or GPX file, charged mobile phone, head torch and whistle, first aid items, foil blanket and appropriate trail footwear. Camping is available on site and basic facilities include toilets, catering, a full medical team and physiotherapy. Entrants receive a bespoke medal; prizes are listed for top finishers and vet categories. GPX files for the routes are provided for download. Parking is managed by ticket/ballot.
