The Beast of the Beacons is a trail running event on Saturday 18 April 2026 in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The event is based at Gilestone Farm, Llangynidr. Distances offered:

  • 10 miles / 16 km
  • 20 miles / 32.5 km
  • 40 miles / 65 km

Entry fees: 10 mile £48, 20 mile £60, 40 mile £80. Minimum age is 16 or older. Cut-off times are 8 hours for the 10 and 20 mile routes and 16 hours for the 40 mile route.

Routes, support and rules

Routes run on mixed terrain including forest trails, rocky sections, climbs, rivers and reservoirs within the national park. Approximate elevation gain is around 2,026 ft for the 10 mile route; the 20 mile route is listed between about 3,884 and 4,219 ft; the 40 mile route is listed between about 7,768 and 8,438 ft. The 40 mile route uses a reversed version of the 20 mile course.

The course is marked and marshals provide support. There are three refuel zones with food and drink; checkpoints cater for dietary requirements including vegan options. Facilities at HQ include camping (basic), toilets, refreshments, physio, and a full medical team. Parking has a small fee. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months, fit to run and kept on a lead, and owners are responsible for their dogs.
