Beast of the Beacons
The Beast of the Beacons is a marked trail running event in the Brecon Beacons National Park with routes of varied length that start and finish at Henderson Hall, Talybont on Usk / Gilestone Farm. The event follows trails through forests and mountains and includes rivers, reservoirs, rocky and soft forest paths, mud and exposed sections. GPX files are provided for the routes, with the 40 mile course run as a reversed second lap of the 20 mile route.

Elevation gain is listed for each distance and the published values include approximate totals for the 10, 20 and 40 mile options. Published cut off times allow extended completion windows for each route, including an extended cut off for the 40 mile option. The course is marked and supported by marshals.
Checkpoints are described as well stocked and able to cater for dietary requirements including vegan options; typical supplies include fruit, snacks, electrolytes, drinks and occasional homemade cake. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, kept on the lead and remain the owner’s responsibility, and canicross entrants are not eligible for the standard trophies.
A mandatory kit list is enforced and checked at registration; required items include waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest or pack, capacity to carry 1 litre of fluid, map or downloaded GPX, mobile phone, hat and gloves, first aid items, foil blanket, reusable cup, head torch with spare batteries and appropriate footwear. Facilities at headquarters and nearby include toilets, catering vans, medical cover, local parking and nearby accommodation options.
