Black Cattle Ultra Gwartheg Duon
Black Cattle Ultra Gwartheg Duon is a point-to-point trail ultra held on 29 August 2026 that finishes in Cardiff at Cardiff Harlequins RFC. The event offers two long-distance route options that follow sections of the Cambrian Way and pass Castell Coch near the finish.
Distances offered:
- 44 miles (71K) starting at Llanthony Priory and finishing in Cardiff.
- 33 miles (53K) starting in Abergavenny and finishing in Cardiff.
The 44 mile route crosses the Black Mountains and moves through mountain fells, wooded vales and villages on its way to Cardiff. The 33 mile route starts about eleven miles into the longer course, begins with a climb of the Blorenge, and passes through Pontypool, Risca and the Machen area before traversing the Cefn Onn ridge toward Castell Coch.
Aid stations are described as well stocked and staffed; the event description also notes indoor toilets and food stations along the route. Organiser information identifies Ridge Runners as a not-for-profit community of running clubs from across South Wales. Entry conditions include a minimum age of 18 for both distances and published entry fees of £90 for the 44 mile option and £80 for the 33 mile option. Entries are open from 30 August 2025 until 23 August 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
