The Black Cattle Ultra Gwartheg Duon is a trail running event taking place on Saturday, 29 August 2026. The event is organized by Ridge Runners, a not-for-profit community of running clubs.

The Routes

There are two point-to-point ultramarathon distances, both finishing in Cardiff. The course follows sections of the Cambrian Way.

  • 44 miles (71 km): The route starts at Llanthony Priory in the Black Mountains. It passes over mountains, through wooded valleys and villages, finishing after passing the fairy-tale Castell Coch near Cardiff.
  • 33 miles (53 km): This route starts in Abergavenny, joining the 44-mile course. It includes a significant initial climb up the Blorenge mountain. The route goes through the towns of Pontypool and Risca, traverses the Cefn Onn ridge, and passes Castell Coch before the finish.

The finish location is at Cardiff Harlequins RFC in Whitchurch, Cardiff.
