Bennachie Ultra Marathon : event overview
The Bennachie Ultra Marathon takes place on 11 October 2025 at the Bennachie Visitor Centre in Aberdeenshire. The course is 50k (about 31 miles), mainly on runnable trails with a short road section of about 3 miles. The route visits multiple Bennachie peaks, including Mither Tap, Oxen Craig and Millstone Hill, and has over 5,000 ft of total elevation. A GPX file of the course is provided by the organisers.
Course, rules and logistics
The route is mostly off-road and includes steep climbs onto the peaks. There is a cut-off of 4 hours at approximately 18–19 miles, at the nearest point to the Visitor Centre before the major climbs. The race is run under the Rules and Regulations of Scottish Hill Runners and participants must carry minimum SHR kit for the entire event. Full kit includes a waterproof full-body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass and whistle; kit checks will be carried out.
Other event details: pre-entry only with no refunds or deferals (swaps allowed until 31 August), entry limit of 150 places, runners must be 18 or older, the course is unsuitable for wheelchairs, and the event is cupless (runners must provide their own cup or bottle for water stations). Photo identification is required to collect race numbers. External support, poles and dogs are not permitted. There will be toilets at the start/finish area.
