Bennachie Ultra Marathon : Event overview

The Bennachie Ultra Marathon is scheduled for 10 October 2026 at the Bennachie Visitor Centre, Pitcaple, Aberdeenshire. The event is organised by CGM Ultra Racing and has a listed total of 150 places. The race is a pre-entry event and runners must be 18 years old or older on the day. The event is run in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of Scotish Hill Runners.

Course, cut-offs and rules

The course distance is 50k (over 31 miles) with more than 5000 ft of elevation gain. It is mainly on off-road trails with a short road section of about 3 miles and starts and finishes at the Bennachie Visitor Centre. The route visits multiple Bennachie peaks, including Mither Tap, Millstone Hill, Hermit Seat, Oxen Craig, Little Oxen and Craigshannoch. A compulsory cut-off of 4 hours will be applied at approximately 18-19 miles; runners who miss the cut-off will be recorded as DNF and may be asked to return to the Visitor Centre.

Runners must carry minimum SHR kit for the entire race and should expect kit checks. Full kit items listed include a waterproof full body cover, foil blanket, hat, gloves and whistle. The event is cupless: water is provided at designated stations but no cups will be supplied; marshals will fill personal bottles or cups. External support, support runners/pacers, running poles and dogs are not allowed. The course is unsuitable for wheelchairs. Photo ID is required to collect race numbers.
