Bennachie Ultra Marathon
The Bennachie Ultra Marathon is a trail race around the Bennachie hills in Aberdeenshire, North East Scotland. The route covers approximately 31 miles, mainly on good runnable trails, with a short road section of about 3 miles, and includes over 5000 ft of total ascent.
The course visits six Bennachie peaks, including Mither Tap, Oxen Craig and Millstone Hill. Mither Tap has a hillfort at its peak that dates back to 1000BC. There is a cut-off of 4 hours at roughly 18 miles, the closest point to the Visitor Centre, before the major climbs onto the peaks.
The event is run in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of Scotish Hill Runners and requires competitors to carry minimum SHR kit for the entirety of the race. Full mandatory kit listed includes a waterproof full body cover, foil blanket, hat, gloves and whistle. No kit, no race; expect a kit check.
The race operates a cupless policy: water is available at designated stations but plastic cups are not provided; marshals will fill runners' own bottles or cups. Runners must be 18 years or older on the day. The course is unsuitable for wheelchairs. Toilets will be provided in the start and finish area. A GPX file of the course is available and photo ID is required to collect a race number. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
