About the race
The Formartine & Buchan Railway 12&6 Ultra is an endurance running event on the former Formartine and Buchan railway line between Maud railway station and Auchnagatt village hall. The distance between Maud and Auchnagatt is estimated at about 4.3 miles. The event offers timed formats in which competitors cover as much distance as they can within the allotted time.

For the 12 hour event a minimum distance of 26.3 miles is required to qualify for a medal and goodie bag; a few extra miles may be needed to complete and confirm that minimum distance lap. Mini short laps will be open toward the end of the race and only completed mini laps are counted. Competitors are advised to have a support crew; crews may provide support at either end of the course.
Entry conditions include a minimum age of 20 years, with Scottish Athletics rules applying. Entry fees listed include UKA member and non member categories. Prizes are awarded across categories: the 12 hour event has male and female Senior, Veteran, Vet 50 and Vet 60 categories; the 6 hour event awards first, second and third places. A bespoke overall male and female champion trophy is also awarded and returned to the organisers each year. The event is organised by Tay & Ram Running Events.
