Tom’s Cairn 10k & 5k Trail Races

The event on 20 September 2026 comprises two off road races that start and finish at Birse and Feughside Parish Church. The church provides access to parking, registration space and limited toilets. The races take place mainly within Finzean Estate and Finzean Woods with a small amount of road running.

Distances

  • 10 km trail run up Tom's Cairn through estate woodland.
  • 5 km run around Finzean Woods on an undulating track.

The 10 km route follows trails in Finzean Woods, crosses the road and climbs to the Tom's Cairn summit viewpoint. After a descent and another road crossing the course crosses fields and follows the Finzean Community Path back to the church. Most of this route lies within the estate with a short section on road.

The 5 km route starts at the church, runs down into estate tracks and woods, passes the small settlement of Turfgate and follows an undulating path with glimpses of the hills before rejoining the estate track and returning uphill to the finish. A route map is available.

There will be a short fun race for primary children around the fields near the church with prizes and ice cream for finishers. All finishers receive a small token and are offered tea or coffee and a home bake. Entries open 15 June 2026 and close 18 September 2026. Entry fees are stated for under 16 and 16 plus.
