Course
The course has 2,770 feet of elevation gain and reaches the summit of BlackRock at 5,810 feet, which is the halfway point. The route runs along the spine of the Plott Balsam Mountains through spruce forests and includes rocky and dirt roads as well as single-track trail. The final climb gains 650 feet over approximately one third of a mile on steep single track.
Awards and challenges
T-shirts are guaranteed to runners registered before March 1, 2026. Awards will be given to the overall top three male and female finishers and to the top individual male and female Masters finishers (age 50+). The BlackRock 101 Challenge awards a belt buckle to anyone who completes the course in 101 minutes or less (1 hour 41 minutes). The first participant to finish the course in under 1 hour on race day will receive a $400 cash award.
Beneficiary
All proceeds from the race will go to the Sylva Art & Design Committee, with a focus on adding outdoor murals to downtown Sylva. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
