Assault on BlackRock

Assault on BlackRock is a seven mile trail race held in Sylva, NC, with a total elevation gain of 2,770 feet. The course reaches the summit of BlackRock at 5,810 feet, which is approximately the halfway point. Runners follow rocky and dirt roads and single track through spruce forests along the spine of the Plott Balsam Mountains.

The final climb to the summit ridge delivers 650 feet of elevation gain in roughly one third of a mile on steep single track. The course surface and sustained climbs create sustained uphill sections and technical terrain.

T shirts are guaranteed to runners who register prior to 3/1/2026. Awards will be presented to the overall top three female and male finishers and to the top individual female and male Masters finishers aged 50 and older. Runners who complete the BlackRock 101 Challenge in 101 minutes or less will receive a belt buckle. The first participant to finish the course in under one hour on race day will receive a $400 cash award.

All proceeds from the race will go to the Sylva Art & Design Committee with a focus on bringing more outdoor murals to downtown Sylva. The event location is listed as 2110 Fisher Creek Rd, Sylva, NC. Registration closes Fri, Mar 20 at 9:00 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
