Y Domen Fawr

Y Domen Fawr is a fell race held near Cwm, Ebbw Vale (NP23 7RD, GR 180059). The advertised distance is 9.3 km (5.8 mi) with 549 m (1801 ft) of climb. The course is described as an anticlockwise loop up and around Y Domen Fawr and is partly waymarked.

The route runs across mainly accessible low-lying moorland and open fell, with heights up to approximately 600 m. Terrain includes reasonable tracks over moorland and good fell paths; some sections are moderately challenging. There is no significant exposure, but mild hazards may occur, for example ground holes, bogs, or river crossings.

Navigation skills are basic: the route is mostly obvious or waymarked but requires some route-finding in parts. Mountain skills are described as basic; off-trail experience is helpful for planning and emergency considerations. Escape routes are available though some sections include decision points. Any inclement weather is not expected to present serious challenges.
