Wye Valley Tunnel Run

The Wye Valley Tunnel Run is a multi-distance event held on Sunday 19th July 2026 at Wyedean School, Sedbury, Chepstow. Races use the Wye Valley Greenway and the refurbished Tidenham Tunnel, a tunnel of about 1.1 km on the route.

Distances

  • Colourburst: 500 m and 2 km fun laps
  • Valley View 10 km: one lap, out-and-back
  • Valley View Half Marathon: two laps, out-and-back
  • Tintern Station Half Marathon: one lap, extended route
  • Tintern Station Marathon: two laps, extended route

Most of the courses follow former railway track and riverside paths on compact stone or tarmac surfaces; routes are predominantly flat. The Tintern routes include a 50 m rocky trail section and a few flights of steps. The Valley View routes include tunnel running amounting to 2 km for the 10 km, 4 km for the Valley Half, and the Tintern variants include 2 km or 4 km of tunnel running depending on distance.

Routes are comprehensively waymarked and marshalled; route maps and GPX files are published. Wave starts are used, with waves of about 100 runners. There is a three hour cut off to start lap two of the marathon. Feed stations provide water, electrolyte and a range of food including gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options; flat cola is available on the second marathon lap. Onsite facilities include toilets, a mobile coffee van and a bag drop. Spectators are advised the best viewing is at the start-finish area.
