XTERRA New Jersey is an off-road multi-sport event held in Stokes State Forest, Sandyston. The venue features scenic singletrack trails, rolling terrain, and dense hardwood forests. The swimming portion of the triathlon takes place in Robert Rooke Lake, a spring-fed body of water known for its clarity. The event is part of the XTERRA World Tour and the XTERRA Trail Run World Series, offering qualification slots for world championship events.
The event schedule is divided into two days of competition:

- MTB 21K (Category 1 and 2)
- MTB 11K (Category 3 and Juniors)
- Full Distance Triathlon (1000m swim, 22km bike, 10km run)
- Sprint Triathlon (500m swim, 12km bike, 5km run)
- Duathlon (5km run, 12km bike, 10km run)
- Paddle Adventure Triathlon (2000m kayak/SUP/canoe, 12km bike, 5km run)
Participants in the cycling segments are required to use mountain bikes, as the rocky terrain is not suitable for gravel bikes. The triathlon is sanctioned by USAT, and the trail runs are USA Track & Field certified. On-site camping in group sites for tents or vehicles is available for participants.
