Thunder Chicken Squatch Trail Jamboree
The Thunder Chicken Squatch Trail Jamboree is scheduled for August 9, 2026 at Stokes State Forest in Branchville, New Jersey. The event offers trail running and hiking on natural singletrack and forest terrain near 1 Coursen Road.
The event includes these distances:
- 5K
- 10K
- 10K Ruck
- 17 miler
The 10K Ruck has two weight divisions based on pack dry weight: 15 pounds and 30 pounds. A pack or ruck must be used to carry the weight; weight vests are not permitted. All rucking participants receive a GoRuck patch.
Course details note that much of the terrain is very technical with many rocks and roots. Recommended equipment includes sturdy trail shoes with good grip and optional trekking poles. Approximate elevation gain is about 1,500 feet for the 17 mile loop, about 600 feet for the 10K (course closer to 6.6 miles), and roughly 325 feet for the 5K. The 17 miler is not recommended for participants under 14.
Organizers provide aid stations including a full station and a water only station on the 17 mile course and a water only station on the 10K. There is a six hour overall time cutoff; the 17 miler has an intermediate aid station cutoff at mile 7.65. Participants over 60 and athletes with disabilities may have a pacer or guide; pacers for other participants require prior approval.
Discounts and programs include a 50 percent military code THUNDERCHICKEN, a kids club code for youth, and hardship or scholarship entry options. All finishers receive a locally made wooden medallion and a swag choice from the Squatch Shop. Dogs are not permitted. Registration closes August 6, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET.
