The courses are described as very technical with many rocks and roots. Recommended gear includes sturdy trail shoes with good grip and optionally trekking poles. Elevation gain is about 1,500 feet on the 17 mile loop, about 600 feet on the 10K loop which is closer to 6.6 miles, and roughly 325 feet on the 5K. The 17 mile route is not recommended for athletes under 14.

Aid stations include a full station and a water only station on the 17 mile course and a water only station for the 10K. The event uses existing trail blazes and directional arrows for the 17 mile and 10K, and pink markers for the 5K. There is a six hour course cutoff and a required checkpoint on the 17 mile course.

The rucking division requires a pack or ruck for carrying the dry weight and awards a GoRuck patch to participants. Discounts and special rates are available for military personnel and youth; additional group and community assistance options are offered. Dogs are not permitted. All finishers receive a handcrafted wooden medallion and may choose an item from the event shop. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
