WWII Veterans Memorial Trail Weighted Race
The WWII Veterans Memorial Trail Weighted Race is a timed, lap-based weight-carrying event held on the WWII Veterans Memorial Trail in Mansfield, MA. This is the 3rd annual running of the event. Competitors have a six-hour time limit to complete as many laps as they can.
The course is an out-and-back of at least 2 1/2 miles and includes paved, gravel and grass surfaces. Packs, plate carriers or other weight systems are weighed at the start and finish of each lap. The lower of the two weights for a lap is multiplied by the lap distance to calculate pound-miles. The event uses the unit "Kz" for pound-miles; the name derives from the organizers' last name beginning with "Koz."
Athletes may add, reduce or keep the same weight between laps. Total Kz across completed laps determines placings within divisions. The final lap must be completed before the six-hour clock expires for that lap to count. The format emphasizes the balance between carried weight and lap pace.
The trail is dedicated to the thousands who traveled the former Old Colony Railroad Line from the staging area at Camp Myles Standish in Taunton toward Boston for military service. The event follows that trail for its course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
