Women's Series - Knocknarea

Women's Series - Knocknarea is a mountain running event in County Sligo on Thursday 30 April 2026. The event provides two course options:

  • 6.50 km with 340 m climb.
  • 4.00 km short course / junior route.

The main route is fully marked and includes two climbs of Knocknarea. The route leaves the tourist carpark at the back of the mountain, follows a path that crosses to the north side to meet a stone wall with views over Strandhill and Coney Island, then turns left for a first ascent to the summit. Runners pass around the front of the cairn, drop into a gulley, follow a fence line and approach the warriors run upper climb from the opposite direction before climbing again across a grassy, heathery bowl to a stone wall and the cairn. The descent retraces the initial climb route to the finish. The short course follows the main route to the cairn and returns the same way.

Mandatory kit is Level B and includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Entry cost is €0, entry closes Wednesday 29 April 2026, entry limit is 250 and entries sold are listed as 23. Sign in and the race hub are at the main Knocknarea tourist carpark; race numbers must be worn on the front for insurance. Only paper cups will be provided for water and jugs will be available to refill. Participants are asked to follow Leave No Trace principles. IMRA is run by volunteers; there is an option to offer or accept carpool spots and volunteer roles affect end of year prize eligibility.
