Carnaween
Carnaween is a mountain running event based at Letterbarrow Football Club in County Donegal. The long course is 7.80 km with 514 m of climb. A short course / junior out-and-back option turns at about 2.5 km on the ascent.
The route includes an open mountain section on private sheep pasture; participants must respect landowner access and keep dogs off the course. There are several fences on the route; runners should follow the route markings to stiles and avoid breaking fences. The summit section is steep with loose rock.
Race marking is limited to major junctions only. GPS devices are not allowed. The event features league scoring for the Ulster Championship and the North West League. The race is capped at 61 participants.
Mandatory kit is Level B Standard and must be carried: waterproof jacket; hat or buff; gloves; whistle; charged mobile phone with emergency number stored; foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent. The exact kit to be carried may be finalised on the day depending on conditions. Failure to carry required items can lead to refusal of entry or disqualification; random kit checks may be carried out.
