About the race
The MTC Bodach is the penultimate stage of the Mount to Coast MizMal® series, held on 19 May 2027 as Day 13 of the fourteen-day event. It is organised as a point-to-point ultramarathon across County Donegal covering an advertised distance of 38 miles (measured route 37.4 miles) with 2,136 ft of ascent and 2,185 ft of descent.
The route starts at Villa Rose Hotel & Spa in Ballybofey and finishes at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana on the Inishowen Peninsula. There are three supported checkpoints at Rann (9.7 miles), County Donegal (cumulative 19.0 miles) and Callaghan Tyres (cumulative 27.9 miles). Checkpoint support includes water, fruit, sweet and savoury snacks, and competitors must carry a reusable drinking vessel because disposable cups are not supplied.
Navigation uses an official GPX file issued before the event and competitors receive a GPS tracking device with an SOS facility. All entrants must maintain a minimum overall average speed of 4 mph, including checkpoint stops, giving a maximum permitted completion time of 9 hours and 21 minutes based on the measured distance. Successful finishers receive a bespoke MTC Bodach finisher's medal; special trophies recognise the first male and first female finishers.
