Winter Solstice Challenge

The Winter Solstice Challenge takes place on 20 December 2026 at Abberton Reservoir Visitors Centre near Colchester, Essex. The event uses a loop around the reservoir with off-road paths; each lap is just over 5 km and the route may be muddy in places.

Participants complete repeated laps around the reservoir. Laps start and finish at the Visitors Centre so runners pass a central feed station on every circuit. The organiser provides a free, well stocked feed station for participants.

All entrants receive a finish medal. T-shirts and vests are available for purchase at signup. The Visitors Centre will be open in the evening, and friends and family can watch runners and buy refreshments on site.

The event is held in association with Essex Wildlife Trust, which will receive a donation from the event proceeds. Total places are limited to 75; current availability is not specified. The event page notes that some participants may cover marathon or longer distances by completing multiple laps. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
