Great Barrow Challenge

The Great Barrow Challenge is a ten day running event hosted by Zig Zag Running at Suffolk Running Centre, Church Road, Bury St Edmunds, IP29 5AX. Entry covers all ten days and allows participants to select from multiple distance options.

Across the ten days the event uses different routes. Examples include Day 1 Denham Flats (10.55k), Day 2 Windmill (half route) with Goldings for 5k and 10k participants, Day 3 Kirtling (full route) with Windmill and Goldings options, Day 4 Gallops, Day 5 Dalham Kiln, Day 6 Golding Hills 10 km out and back, Day 7 Chevington Chase, Day 8 Mill Wind, Day 9 Clover and Day 10 Hargrave with Mount Barrow for 5k and 10k participants. Routes are subject to change.

Race HQ or base camp is located at the start and lap point and includes a water and aid station. Parking is included in the entry price. Bespoke medals designed for the event are issued at the end of the race each day.

Trail runs nearby

A guided 16k trail run at High Lodge in Thetford Forest with conversational group pacing, forest facts and practical trail-running tips, varied woodland terrain and opportunities to spot wildlife.

A trail event at Colemans Fishery in Rivenhall on 14 Jun 2026 offering two route choices of about 6.5 or 4.2 miles. Entry fees are non-refundable and proceeds go to Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust.

Celebrate the longest day at the Summer Solstice Challenge around Abberton Reservoir, a timed loop with 5 km laps. Run as many laps as you like, earn a medal and support Essex Wildlife Trust.

A muddy 5k at Trinity Park, Ipswich on 21 June 2026 organised by Cancer Research UK. The fairly flat showground course uses grass and paths and includes obstacles to climb, crawl and slide. Minimum fundraising target £50.
