Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series

The Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series is a three race trail series hosted around Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, AL (5105 Nolen Ave SE). The series includes both short and long series options and runs across December and January.

The series schedule:

December 20, 2025 Frozen Yeti: 5 Mile, 10 Mile
January 3, 2026 Frozen Trash Panda: 10K, Half Marathon
January 17, 2026 Frozen Goat: 15K, 30K

Courses feature bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings and waterfalls. Several aid stations are provided on course offering water, Gatorade, coke, GU, pretzels, m&m's and granola bars. Marco's Pizza is listed as a race sponsor and pizza will be available at each finish line.

Packet pickup is available on specified Fridays before each race and packets may also be collected the morning of each event from 6:00 am to 6:45 am. Packet pickup location is RunningLane at 2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL.

The series bundle is capped at 250 runners. The race shirt is a short sleeve tri blend. Age groups apply to all races: 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 plus. There are very loose cutoffs; the Long Series uses a 17 minute per mile cutoff and participants unable to maintain 15 minute miles are advised to choose the Short Series.
