Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series : Monte Sano State Park
The Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series is a set of three trail races around Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, AL (5105 Nolen Ave SE). The series runs from December 20, 2025 through January 17, 2026 and includes short and long series options. Courses include bluff views, creek crossings and waterfalls. Several aid stations on course will offer water, Gatorade, coke, GU, pretzels, M&M's and granola bars.
- December 20, 2025 - Frozen Yeti: 5 Mile, 10 Mile
- January 3, 2026 - Frozen Trash Panda: 10K, Half Marathon
- January 17, 2026 - Frozen Goat: 15K, 30K
Registration and logistics
The series bundle is capped at 250 runners. Bundle pricing offers specified savings for Short Series and Long Series entries relative to single-race pricing; registration closes on Tue, Dec 16 at 11:59 PM CT. There are no refunds, deferrals, credits or family transfers. Leftover shirts and medals are not mailed.
Packet pickup is available the Friday before each race (listings show midday pickup windows) and on race mornings for a limited early window. Packets may also be picked up at the RunningLane store in Huntsville. The race shirt is a short-sleeve tri-blend. Age groups for all races are 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Organizers note very loose cutoffs, with a 17 minute/mile cutoff for Long Series participants and a recommendation that those unable to maintain 15 minute miles consider the Short Series. Average winter temperatures in Huntsville are listed as lows 25-35 F and highs 45-55 F. Sponsors include Marco's Pizza, which will provide pizza at each finish.
