Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series

The Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series takes place at Monte Sano State Park, 5105 Nolen Ave SE, Huntsville, AL. The series comprises three race days: December 20, 2025; January 3, 2026; and January 17, 2026. The series offers both short and long series bundle options and the series bundle is capped at 250 runners.

Race details and logistics

Distances by race:

  • December 20, 2025 - 5 Mile, 10 Mile
  • January 3, 2026 - 10K, Half Marathon
  • January 17, 2026 - 15K, 30K

Courses include bluff views, mountain scenery, creek crossings and waterfalls. Multiple aid stations will offer water, Gatorade, coke, GU, pretzels, M&M's and granola bars. Marco's Pizza is listed as a sponsor and pizza will be provided at the finish of each race. Packet pickup is available the Friday before each race at RunningLane and the morning of each race; specific pickup windows are provided for each race. The race shirt is a short-sleeve tri-blend. Age groups are 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+. There are very loose cutoffs; a 17 minute per mile cutoff applies for Long Series participants. Entries have no refunds, deferrals, credits or transfers, and leftover shirts or medals are not mailed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
