Blue Heron Hundreds
Mooresville, United States • 11 Apr 2026
Event overview
The Blue Heron Hundreds takes place at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Mooresville, Alabama. The event offers three distances:
- 100 Mile
- 100K
- 50K
The race uses a soft crushed gravel and dirt road course that centers on a 15.5-mile core loop through birding and wildflower viewing areas. The refuge is noted for waterfowl and other migratory birds. A donation will be made to the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Association.
Course and logistics
The 100 mile distance repeats the 15.5-mile loop six times, with the final loop reduced to about seven miles. The 100K repeats the loop four times and the 50K consists of two loops. The overall cutoff for all events is 31 hours. Aid stations will be on course and are planned to provide water, sports drink mixes, sodas, chips, candy, peanut butter and jelly, cookies, and similar items; the start/finish aid station and one repeated aid station will also offer soup, potatoes, quesadillas, and coffee. Port-a-johns will be at the start/finish area and at the second aid station in the loop.
Drop bag and support rules note that 100 mile and 100K runners may have one drop bag placed at the first and third aid stations of each loop; those bags will not be returned to the start/finish area until after the race concludes. Crewing is allowed only at the start/finish area. Pacers are permitted for the 100 mile and 100K under specified mile restrictions and must check in and sign a waiver. Parking arrangements vary by distance.
Awards and other details
All finishers receive a blue heron medal. Hundred mile finishers receive a custom belt buckle. Overall male and female winners in each distance receive special awards. If a 100 mile runner stops at the 100K distance, that runner will receive a finisher medal but will be ineligible for awards and listed in an unofficial class. Packet pickup is available at RunningLane in Huntsville on the day before the race. Registration closes April 8. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
