Course and logistics
The course uses soft crushed gravel and dirt roads and is built around a 15.5-mile core loop through birding and wildflower areas. The 100-mile distance repeats the loop six times, with the final loop shortened to about 7 miles. The 100K repeats the loop four times and the 50K is two loops. The cutoff for all events is 31 hours.
Aid stations will be on the loop and at the start/finish area. Stations will provide water, sports drink powder, sodas, chips, candy, peanut butter and jelly, and other snacks. The start/finish aid station and one loop aid station will also offer soup, potatoes, quesadillas, and coffee. Port-o-johns are provided at the start/finish area and at the second aid station in the loop.
Pacers are allowed for 100-mile runners from about mile 47 and for 100K runners from about mile 47; pacers must sign a waiver at the start/finish area. 100-mile and 100K runners may use one drop bag placed at the first and third aid stations of each loop; drop bags will not be returned until after the race ends. Crewing is allowed only at the start/finish area. All finishers receive a blue heron medal; 100-mile finishers receive a custom belt buckle and overall top male and female in each distance receive special awards. Parking arrangements differ by distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
