Blue Heron Hundreds

The Blue Heron Hundreds is a multi-distance trail ultramarathon held at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Mooresville, Alabama. The event uses soft crushed gravel and dirt roads and centers on a 15.5-mile core loop that passes notable birding and wildflower areas in the refuge.

Distances offered:

  • 100 Mile : six repeats of the core loop with a final smaller 7-mile loop
  • 100K : four repeats of the core loop
  • 50K : two repeats of the core loop

Aid stations are provided on the course and will offer water, electrolyte drinks, soda, chips, candy, peanut butter and jelly, cookies, and other basic foods; the start/finish aid station and the aid station visited twice per loop will also offer soup, potatoes, quesadillas, and coffee. Port-o-johns will be located at the start/finish area and at the second aid station in the loop. Drop bags are allowed for 100 mile and 100K entrants and will be available at the first and third aid stations of each loop; they are returned only after the race concludes. Crewing is permitted only at the start/finish area. Pacers are allowed for the longer events beginning around mile 47.
