Butterfly Run at Ardingly Reservoir

The Butterfly Run is held at the Ardingly Activity Centre near Haywards Heath, West Sussex. This event takes place in the vicinity of Ardingly Reservoir and forms part of a four-race summer series held across May and June. The medals from each of the four separate events are designed to fit together to create a single image.

Participants follow an out-and-back course that measures 7 km (approximately 4.35 miles) per lap along compact trails. The route is situated around the edge of the reservoir and features undulating terrain. Runners can choose to complete as many or as few laps as they wish within a total time limit of 7 hours.

Various distances are available based on the number of laps completed:

  • 5 km (minimum distance)
  • 10 km
  • Half marathon
  • Marathon
  • Ultra marathon

The event utilizes a flexible start system, allowing participants to begin their run at any point within a two-hour window. This format removes the requirement to decide on a specific distance before the event begins, as final distances are determined by the number of laps finished on the day.

Registration includes chip timing, access to an aid station, and results published on the same day. There are different entry tiers available, including an option to compete without receiving a medal. Capacity for the event is limited.
