South Downs 50 km point to point trail race
The South Downs 50 km is a point to point trail race from the University of Brighton at Falmer to Helen Garden in Eastbourne, mainly following the South Downs Way through the South Downs National Park. The route finishes near the white cliffs of Beachy Head and includes about 3,500 feet of ascent and descent.
Terrain is predominantly grass trails with some farm tracks and forest paths; the organisers describe the course as very runnable and not technical. The event is almost entirely off road, listed as 99% trail and 1% road. There are four aid stations along the route and live GPS tracking with chip timing is provided.
Entry rules and practical details: minimum age is 20 years and no qualifier is required. The published entry fee is £78 and this includes a mandatory GPS tracker. The event uses a fully marked course and offers a bespoke finisher medal, first aid and medical cover, and event insurance. The race awards ITRA points and is a UTMB Index race. An 11 hour cutoff is applied, which accommodates walkers. A free shuttle bus runs from the finish to local hotels and Eastbourne Train Station.
