South Downs 50k

The South Downs 50k is a point to point trail race of 50 km from Falmer (University of Brighton) to Eastbourne (Helen Gardens) mainly following the South Downs Way through the South Downs National Park. The route finishes above the white cliffs at Beachy Head and covers roughly 3,500 feet of ascent and descent. The terrain is almost entirely trails, with grass paths, some farm tracks and forest sections, and minimal road running.

Entries are open on a first come, first served basis until entry limits are reached; no qualifier is required and there is no waitlist. The minimum age to enter is 20 years. The event includes four well stocked aid stations and uses live GPS tracking and chip timing. Additional event services include a bespoke finisher medal, downloadable race photos, first aid and medical cover, event insurance, and a free shuttle bus from the finish to local hotels and Eastbourne train station. The race awards ITRA points and is listed as a UTMB Index race.

Refunds, deferrals and transfers are available under stated conditions: a 50% refund is available until 2 March 2026; after that date refunds are not given except in the case of pregnancy. Deferrals and transfers can be made up until two weeks before race day, with limits and possible fees depending on timing. Permits are granted through ARC and the permit number is pending.
