South Downs 50k
The South Downs 50k is a point to point trail race of 50km from the University of Brighton at Falmer to Helen Garden, Eastbourne. The route runs mainly along the South Downs Way through the South Downs National Park and finishes above the cliffs at Beachy Head. The course includes about 3,500 feet of ascent and descent and is described as largely runnable rather than technical.
Terrain is mostly grass trails with some farm tracks and forest paths. The event lists 99% trail and 1% road. Four staffed aid stations are provided along the route. The race also forms part of the South Downs 50K Triple Crown and is a UTMB Index race offering 2 ITRA points.
Entries are on a first come, first served basis with no waitlist; places close one week before the race or when limits are reached. No qualifying performance is required. Minimum age to enter is 20 years. The entry fee is shown as £78.00, and the price includes a mandatory GPS tracker.
Event services include a fully marked route, a bespoke finisher medal, chip timing with live GPS tracking, first aid and medical cover, event insurance, downloadable race photos, and a free shuttle bus from the finish to local hotels and Eastbourne train station.
