Winter on the Downs
Winter on the Downs is a set of single-loop trail ultras that start and finish at Plumpton Racecourse, Lewes, in the South Downs. Routes run on grass trails, farm tracks and woodland or chalk paths and are described as largely runnable with rolling hills and some longer, steeper climbs. The terrain is almost entirely trail with very little road and generally good drainage, though some sections can be wet and muddy.
Typical winter weather ranges from crisp sunny days to strong winds, rain, sleet, thick fog, freezing temperatures and snow. The event takes place on the eastern side of the South Downs and is offered as part of the South Downs Triple Crown challenge. Minimum age for entrants is 20 and a race qualifier is required; qualification standards vary by distance.
