Festive Friston Forest 5 mile night trail run
The event on 14 December 2026 is a night trail run of approximately 5 mile that uses a self navigated GPX route for phones or watches. A written narrative will be available to assist with downloading the route, and a tail runner will sweep the course. The route runs mostly in countryside, including forest and downlands, and is predominantly anti clockwise.
Participants must be 18 years or older because the start and finish use a licensed premises. Recommended kit includes a head torch, a mobile phone with ICE details, and trail running shoes. Runners are expected to be self sufficient and to carry any additional provisions or warm clothing; conditions can vary along the route and there are a lot of hills.
The event is timed but is presented as an adventure in the dark rather than a competition. It has a festive theme and involves fancy dress; the best Christmas themed outfit wins a dessert. There are incremental time penalties for arriving without a costume, up to a maximum of five minutes. Participants receive a race number and a festive finisher medal; returning the race number behind the bar is exchanged for a drink. Parking is limited.
