About the race
The Sussex Downs Trail Run takes place in the South Downs National Park, starting at Plumpton Racecourse near Lewes. The venue is described as well equipped and is within easy reach of Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27/A23.
The event offers three route options, including a half marathon and two shorter courses. Each route begins with a flattish, tree-lined warm-up section of about 3.5 km before a sustained climb to the South Downs Way. The climb opens out to wide views over the Sussex countryside, the Seven Sisters Country Park and distant sea views. Runners follow a loop on sturdy trails towards Brighton, return to the South Downs Way, then descend from the hilltop before a flat final 3 km to the finish.
Distances
