Welsh 3000 Challenge (14 Peaks)
The Welsh 3000 Challenge is a guided traverse of the peaks in Snowdonia officially recorded as over 3000 feet. The route climbs all 14 named summits and may pass additional nearby tops, covering about 50 km with close to 4,000 m of ascent. Key sections include Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), the Crib Goch ridge, the Glyder ridges and Tryfan, and the Carneddau range.
The event is offered as a continuous 20 hour guided challenge or spread over two to three days. Some parts involve exposed scrambling; previous hill walking experience is recommended. The Crib Goch ridge is attempted only in suitable weather and can be avoided by participants who prefer an alternative line.
Guiding is delivered at a low staff to participant ratio, typically 1:4, by qualified Mountain Leaders and Mountaineering Instructors, with experienced run leaders also available. Support includes refuelling points with food and drink at three key locations, a following support team, different pace options, and transport back to the start. Carnedd Gwenllian is crossed on the route, producing a total of 15 named summits over 3000 feet on the itinerary.
Places are limited because of terrain and supervision requirements. Groups ranging from individuals to charities can take part, and events are scheduled on selected dates. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
