Capel Curig, United Kingdom • 18-19 Jul 2026
Event Overview
The Welsh 3000 Challenge (14 Peaks) is a guided mountain running and walking event that involves climbing all 15 mountains in Snowdonia, Wales, that are over 3000 feet high in a continuous journey. The total route is about 50 km with approximately 4000 m of ascent. Participants can join as individuals or as part of a group.
Event Format and Options
The event offers two main formats on specific dates. A 20-hour single-day challenge is offered for £299. A two-day challenge is offered for £399. The organizer also mentions other dates are available for groups upon request.
Two pace options are provided. A "Run" option involves a guided run at a steady jog on easier sections, with walking elsewhere. A "Walk" option focuses on completing the journey within the allotted time, with navigation covered by guides. Both options include opportunities to learn or practice navigation skills.
Route and Terrain
The route includes significant highlights such as summiting Snowdon (the highest mountain in Wales and England), traversing the knife-edged ridge of Crib Goch (weather permitting, with an avoidance option available), scrambling over the Glyders and Tryfan, and crossing the remote Carneddau range. The terrain involves sections of exposed scrambling. Previous hill walking experience is highly recommended.
Support and Safety
The event includes low-ratio guiding (typically 1:4) by qualified Mountain Leaders, Mountaineering Instructors, and experienced ultramarathon runners. Support includes food and drink at road crossing checkpoints, a support team for anyone needing to withdraw, and transport back to the start. Safety is a priority, with the Crib Goch ridge only undertaken in good weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
