Yr Wyddfa Ultra 50
Yr Wyddfa Ultra 50 is a 45 mile mountain ultramarathon held in Snowdonia Eryri, based around the village of Betws-y-Coed. The event is listed with 2800 m of elevation, 500 places, a 20 hour overall cut-off and an entry fee of £119. The 2026 edition is the eighth edition of the event.
The route follows mountain trails past Tryfan, the Yr Wyddfa summit, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr, Devil's Kitchen and Llyn Idwal, then continues beside Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd. The course uses sections of the Snowdonia Slate Trail and other mountain tracks and includes road crossings.
The race starts and finishes at the village green in Betws-y-Coed. There are five checkpoints on the route providing refreshments such as drinks, sandwiches, salted potatoes, fruit and snacks; vegetarian and vegan options are available. A medic, first responder or first aider will be present at each checkpoint. Participants must check in at every checkpoint; failure to do so will result in disqualification. Some checkpoints do not permit support crews and parking can be limited and chargeable.
Confirmed runners must meet qualifying criteria including being at least 20 years old and having previous ultramarathon and mountain experience. Competent map reading is required and participants must not rely solely on GPS devices.
Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and is subject to random checks. Required items include a hardcopy map, waterproof coat and trousers, base layers, compass, headtorch and backup light, water capacity of at least 1 litre, survival/thermal bag, emergency rations of at least 500 calories, whistle, fully charged mobile phone in a waterproof bag and the provided GPS tracker. Pacers are not permitted. Finishers receive tiered medals and top finishers receive trophies; the event is part of the GB Ultras 50 Mile Slam and Grand Slam series.
