Tryfan Downhill Dash
Tryfan Downhill Dash is a short mountain race held at the foot of Tryfan near Bethesda (car park on the A5, GR 663603). The advertised course distance is 1 km (0.6 mi) with 680 m (2231 ft) of climb listed. The event has a minimum age of over 18.
The organiser states that the route is very steep, rocky and exposed in places where a fall could cause serious injury. The race is described as intended only for those experienced at descending at speed. Safety grading notes the area as less accessible fells and high mountain terrain, with much of the route reaching heights up to or above 900 m. The terrain is mostly off track with difficult underfoot sections and some scrambling may be required.
Navigation is rated at expert level with no waymarking and runners must be confident in self-navigation, including in poor visibility. Mountain skills are described as expert level for movement in exposed, high level environments. Escape routes are few or none and a fatigued or injured runner would require survival kit and skills. Seasonal weather effects are likely to be severe or change suddenly.
