About the race
The Tour De Yr Wyddfa is a mountain race around Yr Wyddfa on 23/01/2027. The full route covers 43.5 km with 2327 m of ascent. Options offered are a whole course, a half course (Llanberis to Pen y Pas), two-person relays and pair entries.
Checkpoints include Rhydd Du (grid 571 527); Nant Gwynant (629 513, cut off 12:00); Pen-y-Pass (648 555, cut off 12:15 full, 13:00 half); the path junction above Idwal Cottage (652 601, cut off 14:45); and Gwastadnant (615 576). A GPX file is available for reference but use of GPX units is not allowed in the race. Course notes are provided.
The event description uses winter imagery and asks participants to move quietly across rocks and bogs. Experience requirements are stated: full entrants need three AL races or equivalent unmarked winter experience; half entrants need three AL or AM races or equivalent. The minimum kit list includes fully taped waterproofs top and bottom, two warm layers with a long sleeved base layer and full length bottoms, hat and winter gloves, bivvy bag, map and compass, at least 0.5 litre water bottle, food and emergency food, torch, whistle and mobile phone.
