Waddington Fell Race

The Waddington Fell Race is a category BM fell running event held in the Forest of Bowland. The course covers a distance of 11.3 km (7 miles) with a total ascent of 415 m (1,362 ft). The route is well-marshalled and partially flagged for participants.

Registration takes place at the Waddington Village Club in Clitheroe. The race start is located a short walk from the club, behind the Lower Buck pub. To ensure the safety of all participants, a cut-off time is enforced at the track at the top of Summit House Farm, approximately 3.86 km (2.4 miles) into the race. Runners must reach this point within 45 minutes or they will be asked to return to the village. There is a specific check point at the trig point on Waddington Fell where runners must clearly display their race numbers.

Participants are required to carry a waterproof top as a minimum kit requirement. Depending on weather conditions, full Fell Runners Association (FRA) race kit may be mandated, including:

  • Waterproof top and bottoms
  • Hat and gloves
  • Emergency food
  • Whistle
  • Map and compass

Facilities at the village club include toilets, a licensed bar, and bag storage at the owner's risk. Prizes are awarded at the club following the race for various categories, including first male and female, age categories from U23 to M/F80, and teams of three. Water is provided at the finish line.
