Veins of Gold Mountain Race

The Veins of Gold Mountain Race is a point-to-point running event taking place in Palmer, Alaska. The course begins at the Government Peak Recreation Area parking lot and concludes at Hatcher Pass Lodge near Independence Mine. Spanning approximately 8 miles, the route involves a significant vertical gain of around 5,000 feet.

The race features diverse and technical terrain. Participants traverse steep uphill trails, loose rock, shale, and tundra. The route follows the race trail up to the summit of Government Peak, continues along the ridge line to April Bowl, and descends toward the Summit Lake parking lot. The final section includes a segment on a dirt road followed by a short stretch of paved road.

Safety requirements are strictly enforced due to the backcountry mountain environment. Participants must carry a minimum of 500 calories, 500ml of water, a light jacket, and a hat and gloves. Additionally, all runners are required to sign a waiver confirming they have completed the entire course at least once prior to the event. The course is marked with wooden orange and blue stakes and reflective signs.
