Skeetawk Scramble
The Skeetawk Scramble is a three day mountain running event held at Skeetawk Ski Area in the Hatcher Pass Recreation Area near Palmer, AK. The 2026 race weekend takes place August 28 to August 30 and includes multiple distinct trail events. Runners may enter one, two, or all three events across the weekend.
The courses use newly developed and existing trails on Frostbite Ridge and surrounding ridgelines. Terrain described for the longer course includes rocky sections, large slabs, silt packed single track, shale descents, packed dirt slopes, ridge traverses, and final downhill trail and road approaches.
Event distances and formats include:
- Youth Scramble: 1 kilometer uphill, about 1,000 feet elevation gain.
- Skeetawk VK: roughly 3 miles up Frostbite Ridge with 3,000+ feet of gain.
- Skeetawk 12K: looped 12K course with about 3,600 feet of elevation gain and loss.
- Skeetawk Skyline Scramble: 37K, about 23 miles, approximately 11,500 feet of vertical gain.
Age minimums are stated for each event, with the Youth Scramble for ages 14 and under, the VK and 12K for ages 15 and older, and the 37K Skyline Scramble for ages 17 and older. The long course is described as a technical certified skyrunning route and will use checkpoint time cutoffs that are expected to be relatively soft for the first year.
