The Course
The route is on the western slope of Massanutten and features a mix of single-track, fire roads, doubletrack, and rugged ridgeline terrain. The course offers views of the Shenandoah Valley. The basic loop is 7 miles long with 1,631 feet of elevation gain. For longer distances, participants complete multiple loops, with a different finish trail for the final segment. Complimentary shuttles transport participants to the start line, with parking near the finish.
Distances and Options
Participants can choose from four distance levels:
- Level 1: One loop (7 miles).
- Level 2: Two loops (14 miles).
- Level 3: Three loops (21 miles).
- Level 4: Four loops (28 miles).
For an added option, participants may carry a weighted vest or ruck of 10, 20, or 35 pounds, which is weighed on the event day.
Event Details
The course is professionally timed and clearly marked with signage. The event is designed as a walking challenge, though running is permitted with appropriate trail etiquette. All distances must be completed within 10 hours to officially finish. All participants who finish receive a commemorative patch and an Ultratrax finisher shirt. Participants completing Level 3 or 4 also receive a Grey Wolf medal. There is a post-event celebration with food and drinks.

Dogs are not allowed at the event. Registrations are non-refundable but may be transferred to a future event date for a fee. The event proceeds rain or shine unless conditions are dangerous.
