About the race
Tunnel Hill 100 in Vienna, Illinois is an ultramarathon weekend held on the Tunnel Hill State Trail through the Shawnee National Forest. The course is a converted rail corridor with a flat, fast crushed limestone surface and an overall 2% grade. The route is a double out and back and includes Tunnel Number 1, a 543-foot limestone passage.
Aid stations are positioned approximately every 5 miles and offer full nutrition options. Some remote stops are water only and require runners to carry their own cups or bottles. Live GPS tracking and timing are provided with mats at every aid station and turnaround.

The 2026 USATF 50 Mile Championships are hosted within the 50 mile race. Championship eligibility requires USATF membership and U.S. citizenship. Championship rules include wearing a second bib on the back, using shoes that meet IAU standards, restricting aid to official stations, and limiting pacers to registered championship competitors. Prize money and record bonuses are awarded for top finishes and for course or world records.
