Shawnee Hills Trail Races takes place August 22 and 23, 2026 at Camp Ondessonk in Ozark, Illinois. The event is presented by Stack'd and is based at Camp Ondessonk within the Shawnee National Forest.

The courses run through sandstone canyon systems and forested terrain, traversing areas such as Jackson Hollow and the Bay Creek Reservoir. The route passes several named waterfalls and viewpoints, including Pakentuck Falls, Jackson Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Cedar Falls, and views from Salomon's Ridge. Vegetation along the course is described as oak-hickory, maple-beech, and pine forest.

On-site accommodations at Camp Ondessonk include open-air tree houses that provide a roofed sleeping area without doors or screens; typical packing suggestions are a sleeping bag, clothing, and running shoes. Tenting on the ground is available, and there are a limited number of hostel-style, climate-controlled guest rooms that sleep eight, with private bathrooms and free WiFi.

Trail races at Giant City State Park include a new 5k, a half marathon loop, and a 40k two loop option on mostly single track with creek crossings, aid stations, cupless format, and optional t shirts.

A community 5k on June 27, 2026 in Carrier Mills, Illinois offering a 5k run and a 5k walk to support the local cross country team, with registration fee of $25, a T-shirt deadline of June 13, and awards for top finishers.

A team-focused 5K cross country race behind the Carterville Community Center on July 17, 2026, with grass, gravel, and paved sections. Teams compete by standard XC scoring and medals and team awards are presented.

A last person standing loop race at Ferne Clyffe State Park with 4.167 mile loops and about 600 feet of climbing per loop. Night laps require a headlamp and reflective vest and registration is capped at 75.
