TruStrength "Uphill Will" 24 Hr skimo : Greenwood, ME
This event is a 24-hour uphill ski challenge held at Mt Abram Ski Area in Greenwood, ME. Participants aim to climb as much vertical as possible on skis within the 24-hour period. The event includes categories for solo vertical challenge and relay teams - 2 person and 4 person teams. The current course record is 44,000 ft of vertical.
Course and rules
The exact course is set by the mountain operations and patrol based on snow conditions. The typical layout uses a single daytime route designed to achieve about 1,000 ft of vertical per lap while limiting interference with downhill traffic. Skiers may descend any open trail but must use the approved uphill course for laps to count toward official results. The uphill route is wanded for daytime use and lanterned for the night portion; some ski-area lights are also on course. Skiers may leave the course for breaks or sleep, but must inform timing staff if a break will exceed 30 minutes.
Support and logistics
An aid table at the timing area provides water, electrolytes, and race food, with hot items rotated through the evening (examples listed include grilled cheese, pizza, ramen). Fresh fruit pie and coffee are normally offered at the finish. Participants may bring personal aid and set up support tents in designated areas. The lodge is available for bathrooms and warm-ups but not for camping or storing wet gear. A potential 12-hour snowshoe category is under consideration.
