Baldface Scramble

Baldface Scramble is a trail running event in the White Mountain National Forest near Chatham, New Hampshire. The event starts from Baldface Farm / Copeland Field off Route 113 in Evans Notch and uses singletrack trails that include exposed ledges and sections requiring scrambling.

  • 29K - two loops that go over the Baldfaces and include a summit of Mount Meader.
  • 14K - single loop that goes over the Baldfaces with about 3,000 feet of climbing.

The 29K passes through a fully stocked aid station at the start/finish after the first loop; the 14K has no on-course aid stations. The event is cupless so participants must bring their own hydration system. Mandatory gear for all entrants includes 2 liters of fluids, 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, and a space blanket or emergency foil blanket. Organizers highly recommend carrying a GPX file for navigation and a water filter.

Crews are allowed at the start/finish and drop bags can be left there; pacers are not permitted. The course uses private property for parking and staging in a grass field accessed via a long driveway off Route 113. Entrants should have prior mountain trail experience; organizers request completion of a hilly, moderately technical trail race of at least 10 miles or equivalent mountain experience.
