Trails & Tarmac Backyard Ultra - Summer Series 2026

Trails & Tarmac is a Backyard Ultra set just outside Crickhowell in the Black Mountains. The event uses a 4.2 mile loop that is roughly equal parts trail and tarmac. The course has one gradual climb, a short steep section, and otherwise relatively flat terrain.

The format follows the Backyard Ultra rules: each loop, or "yard", must be completed within one hour. The first eleven yards follow the standard format. The twelfth yard is run as a timed race with the direction reversed to determine the winner. The last person to complete a yard is declared the winner. Medals are awarded to anyone who reaches 32 miles, and trophies are given to the winning male and female.

On-course support includes a common aid station at headquarters, fed and watered service during the day, and hot food available after the fifth yard. Timing is provided and results report each competitor's distance covered. Event services listed include medics on site, showers and toilets, event photographers with free post-event downloads, and a GPX file for the route.

Support crew rules restrict access to the starting corral and limit phone contact with runners while they are on course except for emergencies. Basic camping with nearby toilet facilities is available in a field near headquarters, and post-race sauna and ice bath services are offered nearby. The entry fee is listed as £75.
