Trails & Tarmac Summer 12 hour Backyard Ultra

The event on Saturday 19th September 2026 is a Backyard Ultra held just outside Crickhowell in the Black Mountains. Participants run repeated laps of a measured 4.2-mile loop that is roughly half trail and half tarmac. The route includes one gradual climb and a short steep section; the remainder is relatively flat.

The format uses hourly "yards": the first eleven yards follow the standard Backyard Ultra rules, each loop must be completed within an hour. The twelfth and final yard is run as a race with the direction reversed to determine the winners. Trophies are awarded to the first placed male and first placed female on the final lap. New unique medals are planned for 2026, and medals will be given to anyone who reaches 32 miles (ultra distance).

Timing will be provided and results will report distance covered. Food and water are available on course, with additional hot food after the fifth yard. Medical support, showers, and toilets are on site. Event photographers will take images that are free to download after the event. A GPX file is available.

Support crew must follow event rules: no supporters in the starting corral, no phone calls to or from runners while they are on course except in emergencies, and the kitchen area is for staff only. Basic camping with toilets is available near HQ; a nearby commercial campsite is also listed. Entry fee noted as £85. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
