Location and course

Trails 4 Tails takes place at Codorus State Park in Hanover, PA. The course mixes about a mile of pavement, open fields, winding singletrack, and, when conditions allow, a stretch along the lake shoreline. Runners pass the Chestnut Orchard, the site of Rummel Farm, and the Mary Ann Furnace area. The route direction alternates by year: odd years run clockwise, even years run counterclockwise.

Format and loop structure

The 40-mile race and the relay use seven loops of 5.72 miles each. The 25K uses three loops of 5.72 miles, totaling about 17.2 miles. The 40-mile event lists roughly 4,200 feet of total elevation gain. The relay notes about 600 feet of elevation gain per loop. The 25K lists about 1,800 feet of elevation gain. Relay teams may include up to seven runners; team members may run one or multiple loops in any order.

Aid station, facilities, and logistics

The start/finish is at Pavilion #1, which also houses a fully stocked aid station and restroom facilities. The aid station offers items such as Tailwind, Coke, ginger ale, bacon, pierogies, quesadillas, grilled cheese, pickles, and a variety of sweet and salty snacks. Camping is available at Codorus State Park; Hanover and York are noted nearby for additional lodging options.

Cutoffs and awards

The 40-mile events have an 11-hour overall cutoff. The 25K has a 7.5-hour cutoff. Awards are given to the top 40 finishers in both the 25K and the 40-mile race, plus custom first-place finisher awards for female and male winners.
