Event Overview
The Mountain Creek Mayhem is a trail running event offering three distances. It takes place in the northern Michaux State Forest within the Appalachian Mountains of south-central Pennsylvania. The event headquarters is at Pine Grove Furnace State Park in the Fuller Lake Day Use Area in Gardners.
Race Distances
Participants can choose from:
- 50K (approximately 33 miles)
- 20 Miler
- Half Marathon (approximately 13.1 miles)
Course Description
The courses guide runners through the northern Michaux State Forest on a mix of terrain. This includes swift single-track, rolling ridgelines, rocky descents, sandstone boulder areas, woodland savannah, and sections with Mountain Laurel and wild blueberries. The routes use classic single track, pine needle paths, grassy double track, and technical forest trails.
Aid and Support
All aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, Coke, Gingerale, fruit, potatoes, chips, cookies, gels, candy, rice krispie treats, pickles, and sometimes meatballs. Menstrual products are also available. For the 50K race, there is one drop bag location and crew access is available at specific aid stations. Crew access is also available for the Half Marathon at one location. The 20 Miler has no drop bag option or crew access.
Time Limits
The 50K has a 10-hour time limit. Both the 20 Miler and Half Marathon have a 7-hour time limit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
