Trail Golf Endurance Challenge : event description
The Trail Golf Endurance Challenge is a one day, staged trail race that uses golf style scoring. Runners start each hour on the same route or "Hole" and receive a stroke score based on the time window in which they finish. The objective is the lowest cumulative score across all holes.
Each Hole is about 3 to 4 miles. The 50K consists of nine Holes and the 10 mile option consists of three Holes. On average each Hole has about 190 ft of climb, totaling approximately 1700 ft for the 50K and about 500 ft for the 10 mile event. Time windows for scoring are tied to distance and pace; for example, a 10–12 minute per mile pace typically corresponds to Par. Stroke values listed include Eagle = 2 strokes, Birdie = 3 strokes, Par = 4 strokes; penalties include a Double Bogey (6 strokes) for not completing a Hole before the hour and an automatic Triple Bogey (7 strokes) for skipping or not finishing a Hole.
Between Holes runners may rest and receive aid from support crews called Caddies. Once on course no external aid is allowed and there are no aid stations on course; runners must carry their own hydration and fuel. The event is cupless; runners must provide reusable containers for refills near the start/finish. Relay teams may have 2 or 3 members with only one member on course at a time. Ties in score are broken by lowest cumulative time on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
