To Grandmother's House We Go : West Des Moines, IA

To Grandmother's House We Go is a fall trail race planned for October 24, 2026, in Brown's Woods, West Des Moines. The event uses the outermost trail loop through the woods; that loop measures 5K and is run once, twice, or three times depending on distance choice. The 2026 date is noted as not finalized.

The course runs on single and double track dirt and generally has a dry, hard but uneven surface. Wooden bridges and wood steps can be slippery from morning dew, and runners should watch for ruts, stumps, and roots. Course markings include colored ribbons and signs with arrows, with a marker at least every quarter mile. Portable toilets will be available, and park facilities or water fountains are not guaranteed. A photographer will be on the course and photos will be shared after the race.

Parking is limited; participants may need to use a paved lot or an older gravel lot about a half mile away and should allow extra time for a possible walk to the start area. The course remains open for three hours. Proceeds support Des Moines area dirt trail systems, the Stewards of Browns Woods, and the Capital Striders. Packet pickup is scheduled for Friday, October 23, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
