The Heatwave Half Marathon - Des Moines takes place at the Trestle Trail on Euclid Avenue. This summer event features several road racing distances and activities for participants of varying ages. The race provides chip-timing, live results, and awards for the competitive distances.
Participants can choose from several event options:
- 13.1 Miles (Half-Marathon)
- 13.1 Miles Relay (Half-Marathon Relay)
- 10K
- 5K
- 1 Mile
- 50m (Kids Dash)
The 13.1 Miles, 10K, and 5K events are chip-timed. The 1 Mile and 50m Kids Dash are untimed events. The Kids Dash is specifically for children aged 10 and under. For the Half-Marathon Relay, teams can be composed of any number of participants, and each member must register individually. A youth-based pricing tier is available for participants aged 12 and under in the 5K and 10K events.
Registered participants receive a designer shirt, a custom bib, and a finisher medal. To guarantee a shirt size, registration must be completed by midnight on the Thursday falling two weeks before the event date. Professional photos are provided for free. At the conclusion of the race, ice cream is served to participants at the finish line. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual race option is available, allowing runners to complete their chosen distance at any location.
