The Woldsman

The Woldsman is a long-distance event organized by the LDWA East Yorkshire group, taking place at the Driffield Showground in East Yorkshire. Participants travel through the Yorkshire Wolds across two available distances:

  • 30 miles
  • 50 miles

The 50 mile course has a time limit of 20 hours for completion. A specific cut-off point is established at the 25-mile mark in Thixendale. The event is open to both walkers and runners, with walkers typically utilizing a staggered start format. All participants must be at least 18 years of age on the day of the event.

The organizers provide food and drink at all checkpoints along the route. Upon reaching the finish line, participants receive a badge, a certificate, and a meal. For those traveling from outside the immediate area, free car parking is provided at the venue. Additionally, camping space is available at the Showground from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning.

Safety requirements include a mandatory minimum kit list. Participants must carry O/S Explorer maps 294, 295, and 300, a compass, waterproof clothing, a first aid kit, and a survival bag. Participants are also required to bring their own mug, as the event does not provide disposable cups at checkpoints. Any retirements from the event must be reported at a designated checkpoint.
