The Woldsman

The Woldsman is an outdoor walking and running event at Driffield Showground, Driffield, East Yorkshire, on 11 to 12 April 2026. It is organised by LDWA - East Yorkshire. The event offers the following distances:

Entries opened on 1 August 2025 and closed on 4 April 2026. The event is currently full; new entries are placed on a waiting list. There are 351 participants entered and 37 on the waiting list. The entry fee is £30. The minimum age for participation is 18 years.

Practical information

The 50-mile course must be completed within 20 hours. There is a cut-off at 25 miles (Thixendale) at 17:00. Food and drink are provided at all checkpoints. Retirements must be reported at checkpoints only. Finishers receive a badge, a certificate, and a meal. Free car parking is available at the showground. Camping space is available from Friday 16:00 to Sunday 11:00; contact the event organiser for details. Minimum required kit includes OS Explorer maps 294/295/300 and a compass, waterproofs, first aid kit and survival bag, a mug for drinks, and extra warm clothing. Join Scarborough Rock on 10 January 2026, a scenic LDWA East Yorkshire challenge offering 26 mile and 16 mile routes along coast and countryside. Checkpoints supply food and drink and finishers receive a badge, certificate and a meal.

Orienteering at Beverley Westwood on Sunday 11 January offers runnable common land, small woods and some climbs across courses for all abilities from White to Brown. Golf greens are out of bounds and dogs are welcome under control.

YHOA Night League at Bishop Wood, Saturday 17 January, brings night orienteering on courses from 1.6 to 5.4 km with an intro option for juniors and novices. Enter by 11 January to guarantee a map; entries close 15 January.
