The Wizard 5

The Wizard 5 is a 5 mile multi terrain race around the footpaths and quiet lanes of Alderley Edge, Nether Alderley and Hare Hill. The course follows its traditional route through the woodland on The Edge, out to Hare Hill via Adders Moss and back across the fields via Daniel Hill.

The event is organised by Wilmslow Running Club and all race proceeds are donated to charity. It is licensed by England Athletics and held under UK Athletics rules, Race Licence No 30941.

Entry options include an individual entry at £15 and a reduced price of £13 for running club members. Entries close on Fri 24 Jul 2026. There are no deferrals; transfers are permitted online up to 24 hours before the race for a fee of £3. If the race is full, cancellations up to seven days before the event receive an 80% refund.

There is a team competition. Each team comprises four runners, of whom two must be female and two must be male; one team member must be aged 35 or under and one must be aged 60 or over. Teams must be nominated in the week preceding the event.

In accordance with England Athletics rules, the course is unsuitable for the use of headphones or buggies. Parking is limited; the National Trust car park on Macclesfield Road, Nether Alderley SK10 4UB is free to runners on the night. Race numbers are collected at Race HQ in front of The Wizard Tea Rooms. Trail races around Castleton with waymarked short and long courses, varied terrain and panoramic ridge views. The event uses small group waved starts, requires kit for runners, offers bakery refreshments and supports path repairs.

A ladies five mile trail race in Worsley on 3 May 2026, organised by Swinton Running Club and based at Beesley Green Community Centre. Online entries open at midnight on 31 December and standard ticket fees apply.

A four hour endurance run on a 5.3 km circuit in New Mills where participants complete as many laps as possible. Entries are now full; minimum age 18 and entry fee £25.

A hilly five mile trail and fell race from Rainow on the edge of the Peak District, taking in White Nancy and the Kerridge ridge. The event is pre-entry only, serves teas and cakes after the race, and donates proceeds to local charities.
