The Winter Green Man Ultra
The Winter Green Man Ultra is a winter edition of the Green Man Ultra held on the Community Forest Path around Bristol. The event uses the same route as the Green Man Challenge and runs the course in an anti-clockwise direction. The two distance options share the same checkpoints and finish but have different start locations.
Key features include chip-timed checkpoints, mandatory kit checks before the race, and required online registration. Entrants must be 20 years of age or over. The course is self-navigation; organisers provide downloadable written directions and GPX files and experienced "timelords" run to target times (9, 10, 11 and 12 hours) to offer pacing and navigation assistance. Competitors must carry mandatory safety and navigation kit such as a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, Ordnance Survey Maps 155 and 167 or printed directions, a compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and a first aid kit.
Finishers receive a bespoke Green Man T-shirt, a bespoke medal and a signed certificate confirming entitlement to a Woodwose or Woodwight if completed within the 12 hour limit for the 45 mile event. Food and drink are provided at checkpoints. The event nominates Avon Wildlife Trust as its race charity and charity entries are available with a fundraising pledge.
