The Winter Green Man Ultra
The Winter Green Man Ultra is a winter edition of the Mount to Coast Green Man Ultra taking place around Bristol on the Community Forest Path. The event is offered in two formats that use the same course, checkpoints and finish; the start locations differ. The winter route is run in an anti clockwise direction.
The event features chip timing, staffed checkpoints that provide food and drink, and timelords who run to target times to assist with navigation and pacing. The race is self navigation; GPX files and written directions are provided for navigation support. The event is cup free so competitors must bring a reusable cup.
- 45 mile and 72 kilometres, 3,100 ft elevation, four checkpoints, 12 hour cut off
- 30 mile and 48 kilometres, 1,900 ft elevation, two checkpoints, 9 hour cut off
All finishers receive a bespoke Green Man technical T shirt, a bespoke Green Man medal and a signed certificate; additional trophy awards are given by category. Runners who complete both the summer and winter 45 mile events in the same year receive a GMU buckle based on cumulative time thresholds (sub 15, sub 18, sub 21, sub 24 hours). Entrants must be at least 20 years old and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, printed maps or map references, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Entry fees are non refundable and checkpoints enforce cut off times to ensure competitor safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
