Mendip Marauder

Mendip Marauder offers two trail distances following the Mendip Way across Somerset. The options are:

  • 30 Miler (follows the West Mendip Way)
  • 50 Miler (takes the East Mendip Way then follows the 30 Miler route)

The course includes significant elevation gain: about 5,516 ft for the 50 Miler and about 4,161 ft for the 30 Miler. The route passes woodland, rolling countryside, hilltops with wide views, limestone features, and finishes at Uphill Sands Beach with sea views.

Key route features include Ebbor Gorge steps, Cranmore Tower, Charlton Viaduct, Wells Cathedral and moat, Wookey Hole, Priddy village green, Draycott Slates, Black Rock Nature Reserve, Wavering Down and Bleadon Hill. The 50 Miler covers the whole Mendip Way and includes both natural and man-made sights.

Logistics and support: the 30 Miler has three aid stations and the 50 Miler has five. This is a cupless race; runners must carry at least one 500 ml water bottle and a cup if they want coke. Aid stations provide water, coke, squash, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, nuts and other snacks. Cut-off times are 8 hours for the 30 Miler (not always strictly enforced) and 14 hours for the 50 Miler (strictly enforced).

Other information: professional medical cover is provided; a small drop bag may be transported to the finish; pacers are not allowed; a coach return service is available for a fee; trophies are awarded to the first male and female and all finishers receive a medal. Participants must be 18 or over on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
